It's A....

GIRL!! 
We found out Friday, so today I headed out to the fabric stores to try to find some inspiration for the nursery...little did I know I'd come home with about 23 yards worth!! Yikes...Totally did not intend on actually purchasing all this today...but when fabric speaks to you, you cannot ignore it!

Mountain of fabric!!

These are the prints I picked out for the nursery...I had not planned on so much Kate Spain, but I started out with that print on top (which I've forgotten what it is and it's in the wash right now, so I'll have to get back to you on that...) then found the Kate Spain that matched perfectly!

I found this owl print and picked out some others to go with it to make a simple quilt.  My LQS is closing down (pause for a moment of silence) and every thing is between $5-$7 a yard so I couldn't resist stocking up on all of this...

These I plan to use for a diaper bag.  

And these are just for fun, because who can resist a good fat quarter??

So the bad news is that my LQS is closing, the good news is I found a new store in town called Chickadee Shop that has some super nice stuff (mostly Moda...).  I went there once a few months ago right after they opened and was not too impressed but decided to give it another shot today now that they've been opened for a while and (obviously) found some really nice stuff.  PLUS they are soon to be a Bernina dealer...not that I can afford a Bernina, but at least I can go stare at them :) They are a bit pricier than I'd like, so I won't be shopping there too often, but at least it's a place in town I can go for some good modern fabrics!

Well, I'm going to go sit by the washing machine to wait for my fabrics to be done so I can start playing!! Hope you're all having a nice weekend!

Party Time!

Remember when you were a kid, and at the end of the school year there'd always be a party to celebrate? Well, I decided to throw my self a party for the end of Curves Class and splurge on some new fabric for my final project!

For the final project, I am going to make this Retro Flowers quilt (although a bit smaller than the pattern, as I'm deathly afraid of trying to quilt a larger quilt...) and I decided to make it just for *me*. I haven't made myself anything special in quite a while, so I'm pretty excited about the idea.  I was looking for fabrics I wanted to use, and wanted to go with a fat quarter bundle all from the same line to give the quilt some unity and so I didn't have to stress over what fabrics go well together. My hubby convinced me to treat myself so I wound up splurging a tiny bit on this Lou Lou Thi fat quarter bundle from Marmalade Fabrics, with some Mod 51 that was on sale to use as the binding.  I've always thought this line was sooo pretty, and I'm really pumped to get to use it to make myself a (hopefully) pretty quilt!  My fabrics came really quickly, and they came all packaged neatly in some tissue paper with a ribbon around it, it really was like getting a present in the mail! I have a few other Curves projects I need to do before I start this one to make sure I'm ready for it, but hopefully in two or three weeks I can start.  So seeing as this is my first actual quilt, I have no idea about sizing...I've decided I'm going to make it 3 blocks wide by 3 blocks long and then have a border around it, and also I think there is sashing between the blocks. I am guessing that it will wind up being around 48" square...think that's a good lap size quilt??

I also am celebrating this weekend that I *finally* finished the second Sophia Carry All and got it delivered to it's recipient today.  It's not really my style, but it turned out nicely and my husband's Gramma seemed to really like it, so a success in my book!

I am so relieved to get this thing out of my life...I was tempted to not even keep the pattern, but of course I can't get rid of anything, so it got filed away neatly in the very off chance I ever decide to torture myself by making another one of these...I will say that this one was easier than the first though. I trimmed out some of the fleece from the seem allowances which made it less bulky once I got some layers together, so it wasn't *as* bad this time around. Oh well, I still love me some Amy Bulter...

Well I'm off to dream about my future pretty pretty quilt (seriously...is that weird?) Any exciting finishes or plans for you all this weekend?

New Fabric = Love

I am giddy as a school girl...why? Because I just got my first package of fabric in the mail! Man I tell you this may have created a monster...there's so many great fabric shops out there with so many pretty things and it's SO easy...uh oh, someone better cut me off from the interwebs...

This all started while I was over at Stitched in Color and Rachel so non-chalantly mentioned that if your stash was needing solids, than the Baby Bottled Rainbow Bundle at Marmalad Fabrics was just the fix.  Turns out, I *was* in desperate need of some solids, so I popped on over and immediately saw the bundle had to be mine.  This bundle of Kona Solids was put together for this shop on Rachel's suggestion, and there are two versions.  I have never gotten to use Kona Solids but I always love the richness of the colors and have heard great things, so I was pretty pumped about this.  While I was there, I hit up the sale section and grabbed a couple of fat quarters and headed to check out.  As I was looking at shipping costs, I realized that I could either pay $10 for shipping, or spend $10 more to reach the free shipping threshold...so yeah that's kind of a no brainer! It took me forever to narrow down my selections, and man was it a hard choice.  I almost wound up with about twice as much as I got, but I had to cut myself off and I LOVE the choices I made.

I had no idea that Ty Pennington actually had a line of fabric out, and actually I didn't even know it was his when I ordered and just noticed as I was organizing my photos, but bravo, Ty! I'm diggin it. I love that even though these are from 3 separate lines, I can mix and match them together.  I'm dying to cut into them, but they're being saved for the e-course that I signed up to take which is the Curves Class taught by none other than Rachel at Stitched in Color (yeah, I've gotten into a lot of trouble over at her blog lately...but I adore her so it's okay!)

So, do you shop for fabric online, or do you prefer to see it in person first? And where are your favorite online places to shop for fabric?
